Converting carbon dioxide and monoxide into valuable resources
My research focuses on the formation of valuable platform chemicals and fuels from renewable carbon feedstocks. Within my primary research project, I collaborate with Antonio on the electrocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction (eCO2RR) to long-chain hydrocarbons and oxygenates over Ni-based catalysts. Besides synthesizing novel catalytic materials, we employ in situ/operando spectroscopy to uncover structure-performance relationships and to gain fundamental mechanistic insights. As part of this research project, we are establishing catalyst evaluation and quantification protocols to enable the assessment of long-chain products in eCO2RR, which includes the development of automated processing and analysis routines for large data sets. Together with Manu, I work on the conversion of synthesis gas (CO+H2) to higher alcohols over promoted Rh-based catalysts. Our research aims to identify performance descriptors and to predict novel catalyst compositions through advanced data science methods, such as machine learning.
